The Planet Earth is home to millions of weird creatures. One of these, the Three-Toed Sloth, is known for his unusual survival methods. In this Alien ArtyFact I’m going to show you how to draw this strange survivor while letting you in on the habits that keep him alive.
Drawing Tips
When following these steps draw lightly at first so you can erase unneeded lines easily. Then go back and darken in the lines you want to keep.
1) Draw a head shape and a long, curved line that will become his back and part of one leg.
The Three-Toed Sloth lives high up in very tall trees. A lot of mammals on Earth do too, but sloths hardly ever come down. They eat, sleep and have their babies while hanging from a branch. In fact they only come down to potty once every 7 to 14 days.
2) Draw lines for the rest of the leg, the stomach and the arm that is closest to you in the picture.
Sloths move very, verry, veerrry slowly. Most predators are attracted to movement, especially fast movement. So while other animals are zipping about, trying to keep from becoming lunch, sloths creep along so slowly they are rarely even noticed.
3) Draw lines for the branch and for the leg and arm that is farthest away from you in the picture. Try to make them look like they are going behind the branch.
4) Draw the tail and the claws for the arms and the leg that is closest to you.
Sloths create their own camouflage by letting algae grow in their fur. This gives them a wild green color that helps them look like an ordinary clump of leaves.
5)Draw the eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth.
6) Draw the hair on top of the head as well as a tuft of hair on each side of the face.
Besides being a slow motion mover, a sloth gets its name from sleeping 15 to 20 hours a day! It works for them. And how better to look like part of a tree than by “sleeping like a log”?
7) Add small tufts of fur on key areas of the sloth such as the elbows, knees and anywhere that bends a lot.
